What Client Needed #1
Telecom operator had a challenge of keeping the network parameters aligned with its design criteria. The network was undergoing large scale expansion with multiple concurrent ongoing projects that are proposing even conflicting requirements for network parameters. For each parameter change, there was a need for parameter reconciliation and the coordination between different projects.
Once parameters were agreed, there was an additional time for manual script creation and execution on network nodes. Total process was taking up to 2.5 weeks between the parameter change request to implementation and the client wanted to improve and automate the process.
What Client Needed #2
European telecom operator was undergoing RBS vendor swap and required the migration of all parameters and neighbour relations (like-for-like) from old to the new vendor. They were planning to migrate the parameters and relations manually, but the major challenge was that relations would become useless if only one of the planned RBS swaps would be cancelled.
What We Did
We developed and implemented CRANE – Continuous RAN Evolution. It is an automatic system for managing and optimising parameters of telecom network, tested for large scale deployments on biggest network in the world.
In the process we used our Fetch → Evaluate → Implement concept:
- Fetch parameters from the entire network within minutes or receive all network updates in real time;
- Evaluate wanted network state using customer defined rules (rule editor supporting any type of configuration rule, intuitive and easy to use);
- Automatically implement wanted state in the network.
The system supports multiple telecom equipment vendors and multiple technologies (3G, 4G). Parameters are set based on network policy rules. Self optimising modules are available for various tasks.
How Did Client Benefit #1
HashCode introduced CRANE – Continuous RAN Evolution – that automatically fetches network configurations, evaluates it by defined set of rules and implements the found delta within minutes. Client’s operational processes have been significantly simplified and the number of required technicians has been reduced by 65%.
How Did Client Benefit #2
CRANE – Continuous RAN Evolution – was deployed and was able to keep consistent network configuration with only 5 minutes lead time before the swap. Additionally, when CRANE was introduced, it quickly detected and corrected all the inconsistencies that were present in the network.
